Capitals Win but Lady Capitals are Beaten at Huron

┬áHURON, S.D. – The Pierre-Ft. Pierre Capitals Boys Varsity hockey team survived a scare in Huron Friday night. Cash Anderson scored the game winner at 15:48 of the 3rd period as the Capitals edged the All Stars 4-3 in state high hockey league play. The Capitals had a 3-1 lead going into the final period as Landon Badger scored a first period goal and Anderson and Brandon Swenson lit the lamp in the second period. But Huron found the goal twice in the third period with Ry Solem scoring a power play goal at 12:29 to tie the game at 3. The Capitals outshot the All Stars 34-23 as Capitals goalie Alex Meagher made 20 saves in the game. Pierre-Ft. Pierre remains in third place in the league standings as they travel to Sioux Falls for a matchup against Sioux Falls #1 tonight and then Sioux Falls #2 tomorrow.

Pierre Lady Capitals varsity hockey team’s hopes of gaining a fifth seed in the upcoming State High School Girls Varsity Hockey tournament took a hit last night as Huron downed the Lady Capitals 6-2 in Huron. After a scoreless first period, the Lady Capitals fell behind 3-1 after a two periods of play. Huron would score 3 more goals to the Lady Cap’s 1 in the third period. Gabby Vizcarra and Morgan Puepke scored the two goals for Pierre-Ft. Pierre as shots on goal were even at 32. The Lady Capitals travel to Mitchell for a game against Lady Marlins tonight. Tomorrow, the Lady Caps host Mitchell in the regular season finale at the EXPO Center in Ft. Pierre.
