PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) The first baby of 2014 at Avera St. Mary’s Hospital was born early yesterday morning. Parents Vince and Katie Bruce of Hayes welcomed their new son, Riley David Bruce, Wednesday morning-January 1 at 2:54 a.m. Dad Vince Bruce says that he and his wife knew their baby would be born over the holidays; but they weren’t sure exactly when it would be. He says they were in the hospital for several hours-before Riley was finally born.
Riley is the couple’s first child. He weighed in at 8 lbs. 10 oz. and measured 21″ long. Vince Bruce says they have had friends and family stopping in since Wednesday-and they have received diapers, clothes and other gifts-in honor of Riley’s arrival at the start of the New Year. He says Riley’s birth also marked a first for his delivery physician-Dr. Mark Ballard.
The Bruce family expects to go home today and Vince says he thanks God for a wonderful new baby in their lives and for taking care of the health of his wife.
