Arlyne was born on the family farm 15 miles south of Presho to Clint Roberts Sr and Grace (Scofield) Roberts where they homesteaded. She went to the Schoulte Country School for 8 years and then to Presho High School, graduating in 1940. Growing up on the farm, she loved horses and all animals and loved the countryside.
She married her handsome sailor, Ted Brown in 1946 in Pierre SD and they made their home in Presho. To this union four children were born: Lynda, Terry, Larry (who died in childbirth) and Nancy. She and Ted lived in their home for 40 years before moving to a smaller home in Presho.
She was a member of 4-H growing up. She and Ted were members of the Presho Methodist church where she was a member of the United Methodist Women for more than 50 years. She was on the City Library Board, American Legion Auxiliary, Lyman County Historical Society and served in various offices in these organizations. She enjoyed cooking and caring for her family who appreciated and loved her. Baking for them and neighbors was almost a hobby for her, which she loved doing. She also enjoyed sewing and crafts of many types including painting woodworking projects that Ted cut out was something they enjoyed together.
She and Ted enjoyed traveling which included a trip to Greece to visit Nancy and family and around the United States.
