PIERRE, S.D. – The Pierre Governor boys basketball team improved to 3 and 0 on the season with a 50-40 win over Watertown Saturday night in Pierre. The Governors trailed 35-33 after 3 periods but went on a 13-0 run to open an 11 point lead and and went on for the victory. The Governors shot 45 percent from the field on the game but went only 2 for 12 from 3 point range. Austin Christopherson led the Govs with 13 points and was the only double figure scorer on the game. Erin Severyn and Cooper Walton each added 9 points apeice. The Governors outrebounded the Arrows 30-27. Jesse Poppen scored 16 for Watertown’s lone double figure scorer. Watertown also turned the ball over 31 times while the Govenrors had 21 turnovers on the game. Pierre travels to Brookings Friday. Watertown is off until a week from Tuesday when they face Aberdeen Central in Watertown.
