PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) The City of Pierre is declaring a Snow Emergency. Construction and Operations Manager Lynn Patton says vehicles must be off all snow routes at Midnight tonight, and snow removal on snow routes will commence shortly after all the vehicles have been moved. This emergency is in effect until the City declares it lifted, so residents should wait to park on snow routes until after the city announces the snow emergency is no longer in effect. This will most likely be after 8 AM tomorrow. Patton says the public can assist in better snow removal by avoiding parking on city streets. This allows the crews to clear more snow at a more efficient rate and complete the removal during the first round of plowing.
The public is ask to do as little traveling during the heavy snow fall and if travel is necessary, to use extreme caution and drive at reduced speeds.
Once the streets are plowed, Patton says it is a violation of city ordinance to move snow back into the street from either a sidewalk or driveway.
For those who live in Cul-de-Sacs, they are advised that the city will plow snow into a pile in the center of the Cul-de-Sac and remove it later.
