RAPID CITY, S.D. – (DRG News) Ranchers who experienced losses in October’s Storm Atlas are reminded to apply for funds from the Rancher Relief Fund before the December 31 deadline. Silvia Christen, executive director of the South Dakota Stockgrowers Association says more than two million dollars has been donated to the fund and producers are being urged to apply for money before the deadline, because the application process will not reopen after December 31. Christen says in a press release that although the money will not make ranches whole again, organizers are hopeful that the funds will help people in one way or another. To ensure confidentiality, applications for Rancher Relief Funds will be reviewed by Lutheran Social Services staff and will be passed out based on criteria set up through the South Dakota Cattlemen’s Association, Stockgrowers Association and Sheep Growers Association. Any producer within the blizzard area is encouraged to fill out the one-page application. Anyone who had a livestock loss, whether it was sheep, cattle, horses or buffalo, is welcome to apply. Nominations are also being accepted from family, friends, community members and others who know ranchers and families that need help. For more information, visit http://www.ranchersrelief.org/
