PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) The Capital Area United Way has announced that some major changes are coming to one of its annual events. Executive Director Gloria Hanson says for the first time ever, a popular vote will determine the winner of the 2014 Capital Area United Way’s “Dancing with the Stars” competition. Hanson says in a press release that “Dancing with the Stars” was originally set up to honor donors, recognize volunteers and others in the community who make each year’s campaign a success. She says the event was never intended for fundraising, but instead, was originally organized as a way to say thank you. So instead of awarding first place to the dance team that raises the most money at the February 27 gathering, Hanson says they are going to ask attendees to select a winner. Also new this year, the “Dancing with the Stars” competition is open to single dancers as well as groups and teams of performers, instead of couples only. Hanson says dancers of all ages are invited. Hanson says individuals interested in competing can contact the Capital Area United Way at 224-9229 or email her directly at firstname.lastname@example.org. Admission to the February “Dancing with the Stars” event will remain free, with a meal and beverages served for a free will offering.
