3 South Dakota Indoor Track Athletes Earn NSIC Weekly Honors

BURNSVILLE, Minn. – 3 South Dakota Indoor Track and Field athletes were named Athletes of the Week in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference this week. Sophomore Herald Karbo and senior Kristin Brondbo from Augustana and University of Sioux Falls senior Brigitte Gross earned the honor from the NSIC. Karbo was the fourth Viking of the day to provisionally punch his ticket to the NCAA Championships when he ran the men’s 3k in 8:31.71. Karbo’s time is the top mark in Division II and the only qualifying time so far this season. Brondbo posted an automatic qualifying time of 9:32.31 in the women’s 3,000-meter run to break former teammate Runa Falch’s school record by over five seconds. Brondbo, coming off her fourth straight All-American cross country performance, won the women’s 3k by over 20 seconds and set a new collegiate South Dakota record. And Gross came away with titles Pole Vault and the 60m hurdles this weekend at the MSU Chuck Petersen Preseason Open. Gross’ vault of 12-6.75 (3.83m) helped her claim the title as she won the competition by over seven inches and also notched a NCAA provisional qualifying standard. In the hurdles, Gross edged out Hannah Mueller of Winona State to take the victory with her time of 8.99.
