High School Boys Basketball Begins Practice Today Scrimmmages in Pierre Set for Saturday

PIERRE, S.D. – The final teams of the winter sports season begin their
seasons today.  Boys basketball can have their first allowable practices
under South Dakota High School Activities Association rules.  The defending
State Class AA champion Pierre Governors began two a days this morning at
Riggs High Gym.  Head Coach Terry Becker will  have to find someone to step
in the positions that Lane Severyn and Zach Hanson have occupied for the
last four years.  Those two players graduated last year as the top two all
time leading scorers and rebounders in school history.  The Governors do
have some returning starting experience though with Austin Christopherson,
Garrett Pochop, Cooper Walton and Nick Rabern expected to lead the way.  The
Governors will open the season a week from Friday when they entertain
Mitchell at Riggs High Gym.

PIERRE, S.D. – The Pierre Governor and Lady Governor basketball teams will
both have their annual pre season scrimmages Saturday at Riggs High Gym.
The boys and girls will scrimmage simultaneously in the Riggs High Main gym
as well as the auxilliary gym beginning at 10 am.  The teams are asking that
fans who attend the scrimmages bring any type of canned food as admission to
the scrimmage.

FT. PIERRE, S.D. – Basketball practice for Stanley County began today for
first year head coach Scott Webb.  Webb was hired two weeks ago and just
began teaching at Stanley County last Monday.  He inherits a squad that won
only once last year but has a nice number of players out for basketball this
year and good nucleus back from last year’s squad.  The Buffalos will have
two a days most of this week.  They will host Bennett County in their season
opener on Saturday, December 14th.
