MDU Advises Customers to be Wary of Utility Service Phone Scam

BISMARCK, N.D. – (DRG News) Montana Dakota Utilities is warning its customers that there is a utility scam circulating that has impacted parts of its service territory.  MDU says people have been contacted via phone by callers who state that if their utility bill is not paid immediately over the phone, utility service will be disconnected.  Montana Dakota Utilities says those who receive such a call should hang up and call MDU at 1-800-638-3278 to inform the company that they have been contacted by the scammers.  MDU also says customers should not share information like credit card or checking account numbers with individuals who call them on the phone.  MDU serves about 135,000 electric customers and 245,000 natural gas customers in 262 communities in South Dakota, North Dakota, Montana and Wyoming.
