FORT PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) Fort Pierre businesses and city officials are re-starting talks about the possibility of organizing some type of Fort Pierre Business Association. Dave Bonde, Executive Director of the Fort Pierre Development Corporation says an informal meeting was held Tuesday which included downtown businesses, city leaders and others. He says the idea to set up some kind of business association in the community has been discussed in recent years.
The Fort Pierre Development Corporation organized Tuesday’s meeting. Bonde says they are looking at various options for a business related association. The business sector in Fort Pierre has continued to grow in recent years, with changes in the Teton Island Development, new business additions along the highway and in downtown Fort Pierre; new ventures like the Emporium, Bow Wow Meow Pet Clinic and plans to soon re-open the Silver Spur. Bonde, who has been a part of the Development Corporation for about ten years, says efforts have been made to keep Fort Pierre’s growth consistent.
No new dates have been set for the group discussing a Fort Pierre Business Association to meet again, but Bonde believes they will gather again after the New Year. The FPDC has scheduled its annual meeting for January 23.
