A Crow Creek Tribal School Counselor Wins 2013 Excellence in Education Award from CACS

PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) A Crow Creek Sioux Tribal School Counselor has been named the winner of the Capital Area Counseling Service’s 2013 Excellence in Education Award.  Dr. Jodi Owen, Clinical Director at CACS announced Tuesday that Mary Normile is this year’s award recipient.  Owen says Normile is very in tune with the mental health and addiction needs of her students and refers them for additional services they need for academic success.  Owen says that Normile is an asset to CACS and to the students she cares so much about.  The Excellence in Education Award is given out each year by the Capital Area Counseling Clinical Director to deserving educators in the area for their outstanding work in meeting the mental health and addiction needs of students; which in turn helps improve academic achievement.  Previous winners of the award are Dennis Champ, Andrea Clark, Shannon Bieber, Bobbi Brown and Terri Mehlhaff of Pierre Public Schools; Sheena Thomson of Pierre Indian Learning Center and Bill Williams of Lower Brule Elementary School.
