PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) Capital Area Counseling Service is holding a photo contest this month to mark the important topic of Men’s Mental Health.  CACS has started a “Facial Hair Photo Contest” as part of No Shave November and to bring attention to depression and other mental health issues in men.  Mark Swendsen, a CACS Board Member says men face challenges when it comes to how they manage their mental well being.  He says often, men don’t seek help when they really need it.

Over six million men are diagnosed with depression each year.  Swendsen says local men can offer their support to the awareness of mental health in men by growing a beard or moustache.  He says photos should be submitted to Aftin Eich at aeich@cacsnet.org with contact information and the picture will be posted to Facebook for votes.  The winner will be announced December 2 and Swendsen says that person will receive some great prizes.

Swendsen says Capital Area Counseling Service offers several helpful services, in addition to mental health assistance-from addiction services to offender services.
