PIERRE, S.D. – The Pierre Governor football team puts in their final practice of the season later today at Riggs High School. Tomorrow, the Governors will play for the schools first ever high school football state championship when they take on the Watertown Arrows at the Dakotadome in Vermillion for the Class 11AA championship. While Watertown head coach Steve Svendsen says his team has changed since the opening game when Pierre beat the Arrows 35-24, Governor head coach Jayson Poppinga says the same is true of Pierre. The emergence of senior running back Ethan Case as an all state candidate and a defense that has been stopping their opponents since the second half of the Yankton game are two points the Governor head coach points out. Plus several players for Pierre have the opportunity to win a second state championship in the same year. Players that also played basketball and wrestled last year won state titles earlier this year. And there will be a pep rally for the Governor football team at Riggs High School this afternoon at 2:30 pm. The public is invited to attend.
