Site of Reported Standoff All Quiet This Morning

Police Lights

PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) It appears that law enforcement members have left the scene of what is believed to have been a standoff in a northern Pierre neighborhood Thursday-and that the incident has been handled.  The site was blocked off yesterday by Pierre Police and other law agency vehicles.  Officials were initially called to a location on North Highland Avenue Thursday afternoon.  A number of law enforcement members-local, county, state and federal-were at the scene-into the night Thursday.

On Wednesday, a vehicle chase that involved several law agencies ended with a man being shot in a rural area near Fort Thompson.  Thursday, the Federal Bureau of Investigation issued a statement asking for the public to assist in finding a man they wanted to speak with about Wednesday’s incident, identified as 27-year-old Jason Garreau.

We hope to have more information from authorities on yesterday’s matter in Pierre later today.
