PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) Here is an update from the Pierre Police Department on Thursday’s standoff in Pierre:
As part of an ongoing Federal investigation into a shooting North of Ft. Thompson on 10-30-2013, a suspect was located at a residence in Pierre, SD in the afternoon hours of 10-31-13.
In the process of attempting to apprehend the suspect he barricaded himself in the residence. During the course of the standoff the suspect fired several shots at law enforcement, one which struck an officer.
The suspect, Jason Todd Garreau, 27, Eagle Butte, was apprehended and arrested and is currently in custody at the Hughes County Jail. Garreau is being held on a Federal detainer and further charges are pending. A joint investigation involving federal and state authorities is ongoing. The officer who was shot did not receive life-threatening injuries.
The following agencies were involved in the apprehension: Federal Bureau of Investigation, U.S. Marshal Service, Bureau of Indian Affairs, South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation, South Dakota Highway Patrol, Pierre Police Department, and Hughes County Sheriff’s Office.
