Pierre Man Could Face New Charge for Damaging Cell at Jail-Following Sentencing for Previous Crimes

Jail Bars

PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) A man, who was sentenced on Tuesday in a Fort Pierre courtroom for Simple Assault on a Law Officer, now faces the possibility of additional charges-after authorities say he broke a sprinkler in his cell at the Hughes County Jail.  Stanley County States Attorney Tom P. Maher says 32-year-old Rocky Jerome Clark of Pierre, who is also known as Rocky Jerome Peneaux, was given a two year penitentiary sentence Tuesday for assaulting a law officer.  Maher says the incident he was sentenced for occurred in August of this year when officials responded to a report of domestic violence at an apartment in Fort Pierre.  After he was arrested for domestic assault against a female victim there, Maher says he assaulted the arresting officer.

Clark was brought to the Hughes County Jail after his Tuesday sentencing and that’s when Hughes County Sheriff Mike Leidholt alleges that Clark broke a sprinkler off in his cell.  Jailers were able to stop the water from spraying in the cell.  Leidholt says he’s not sure how much water fell within the confines of the unit.  He says a charge of Intentional Damage to Property against Clark is being forwarded to the State’s Attorney’s Office.
