Boy Reading Book at the Library

PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) First Lady Linda Daugaard visited the Oahe Child Development Center in Pierre yesterday to read to two different groups of children at the facility.  Her visits were part of Head Start Awareness Month.  The First Lady read three selections yesterday morning; The Foot Book by Dr. Seuss, Are You My Mother by P.D. Eastman and Llama, Llama Red Pajama by Anna Dewdney.  She also read to another group in the afternoon.  Mrs. Daugaard said reading to children never gets old for her.  She says she has visited 225 schools around the state; along with about 25 other locations to read to children and spread the word about why books are great.    She says she especially enjoys reading to pre-school age kids.

Mrs. Daugaard says programs like Head Start are great ways to help young children learn and grow.

When it comes to choosing one favorite to read, the First Lady says she likes Dr. Seuss’ “The Foot Book”.

First Lady Linda Daugaard is shown here Thursday morning reading "The Foot Book" by Dr. Seuss to the morning classes at Oahe Child Development Center in Pierre.
