FORT PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) Saying “he’s had a good run” and “it’s time to turn the reins over to somebody else”, Fort Pierre Mayor Sam Tidball made it official yesterday that he plans to wrap up his time in the Mayor’s office next year and doesn’t plan to run for re-election. Tidball is finishing up his most recent two-year term and has been the city’s Mayor since 1998. He says he chose to seek his current term in 2012 because he wanted to see the city through recovery from the 2011 flood.
Prior to being elected Mayor, Tidball served on the Fort Pierre City Council from 1992-1998. As he looks back at how the city has grown during his time at the helm of city government, Tidball says it’s hard to pick just one positive thing, but states that development in Fort Pierre has grown substantially in recent years.
Tidball says after he hands over the keys to the Mayors office to someone new, he plans to spend more time with family.
Tidball says this year has brought more street work than would be seen in a normal year to Fort Pierre and street projects that were started earlier are wrapping up.
Citing Councilwoman Gloria Hanson’s announcement yesterday of her intention to run for Mayor, Tidball said Hanson’s experience on the council, along with her management experience and the fact that she’s a “Hometown Gal” all make her a very qualified mayoral candidate.
