PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) The Pierre School District is noting Native American Week with activities today through Thursday. Tynell Kocer, who is the Homeschool Liaison for the Native American Education Program for grades K-12, says today brings a Native American Day Pow Wow, which will be held from 1-5 p.m. at Riggs High School Gym.
Kocer says there will be a concession stand at today’s event and a portion of the money raised will go to help pay for a graduation pow wow, held at the end of the school year. Tomorrow and Thursday, Kocer says the Lakota Star Lab will be shown at two local elementary schools and there will be a beading class on Tuesday at Riggs.
Wednesday will feature a presentation for middle school and high school students in Pierre from Peter Lengkeek; who will also answer questions after the showing of the “Dakota 38” documentary at Riggs High School Theater at 6:30 p.m.
All of this week’s activities are sponsored by the Native American Education Program.
