PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) Lockdown drills were conducted yesterday at Pierre’s public schools.  The Pierre School District worked with local law enforcers from the Pierre Police Department and the Hughes County Sheriff’s Office in setting up the lockdown drills.  The drills are held to give students and school staff a chance to practice lockdown procedures they would follow if there was a threatening situation in their respective buildings.  Pierre Police Captain Elton Blemaster says law enforcement officers present at yesterday’s drills observed how the students and staff would react during an actual lockdown.  He indicates in a press release that organizers were pleased with the results of the drills.
