PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) The City of Pierre’s Arboretum will be the location for a dedication ceremony this afternoon. The Pierre Native Plant Arboretum was impacted by waters from the 2011 flood and work has been done at the site to replant trees and a trail through the arboretum was surfaced, as well. Today’s event starts with self-tours and a kids bird feeder building activity at 5:00 p.m. and a program will follow at 5:30 p.m. Speaking during the dedication event will be Dan McCormick-Chairman of the Pierre City Arbor Board, Pierre City Commissioner Steve Harding and Doug Hofer, Director of the Parks Division for the Game, Fish and Parks Department. Also offering comments will be Program Specialist Lynn Spomer who will talk about the Track Trails program. A ribbon cutting is planned for 6:05 p.m. and trail tours will be from 6:10 to 7:00 p.m. this evening. The arboretum is located in southeast Pierre at 1200 Izaak Walton Road.
