PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) The Pierre Fire Department was called to the report that smoke was seen coming from under the hood of a vehicle parked in the Runnings parking lot Saturday morning. Pierre Deputy Fire Chief Ian Paul says fire crews were summoned to the business about 10:00 a.m. Saturday. A store employee was able to put the fire out with the help of a fire extinguisher. Paul says there was minor damage to the engine compartment of the vehicle and the fire department was at the scene of the call for about 15 minutes. He says the car had been parked in an area of the lot where there weren’t other vehicles close by. He says it’s not known why the fire started, but says it originated near the oil cap on the vehicle’s engine.
