PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) South Dakota’s Game, Fish and Parks Department recently stocked about 3,000 rainbow and brown trout in the Oahe Tailrace. G F & P Fisheries Biologist Robert Hanten says in a press release that the 15-20 inch trout were placed in the waterway to see if a fall stock of larger trout will stay in the tailrace area and be available for anglers to catch throughout the year. Hanten says it’s hoped that stockings like this will give the chance for large trout to be stocked, grown and caught as trophy trout in the future. Oahe tailrace is located just below the Oahe Dam powerhouse about five miles northwest of Pierre.
