PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) The search continues for someone to fill the Fire Chief position for the Pierre Volunteer Fire Department. Full time chief Bill Alexander announced in June that he would be leaving the department later in the year. Alexander joined the Pierre Fire Department in November of 2005 as the department’s first full time paid Fire Chief. Pierre Mayor Laurie Gill says the city has received several applications for the open spot.
Gill says people applying for the position range from local citizens to people from outside the area who are interested in the job.
Before coming to central South Dakota to lead Pierre’s firefighters, Alexander served as Fire Chief of Laramie County Fire District #1 in Wyoming from 2003 to 2005. Alexander’s last day on the job in Pierre is to be November 1 of this year.
