PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) A groundbreaking ceremony was held this morning to officially mark the start of construction for the state’s newest location of Goodwill. Pierre’s new Goodwill Store and Connection Center will be located at 1902 Eastgate Avenue just north of Beck Motor Company and along North Garfield Avenue. Present at this morning’s ceremony were several officials, including Mayor Laurie Gill, Pierre Chamber CEO Laura Schoen Carbonneau and Pierre Economic Development Corporation Director Jim Protexter, as well as local business representatives and others. Goodwill Industries CEO John Hantla, who is based in the organization’s Sioux City, Iowa office; told those at the groundbreaking that the new facility should be open in May of next year and will be Goodwill’s tenth location in the state. Besides being a place where people can donate gently used clothing and household items, Goodwill will also sell the items; plus offer youth services, help people with attaining employment with its “Connection Center” and vocational training program; and will offer other services. Goodwill already has locations in South Dakota in Aberdeen, Brookings, Yankton, Mitchell, Rapid City, Watertown and three locations in Sioux Falls.
