RAPID CITY, S.D. – The number 1 rated Pierre Governor football team improved their record to 2-0 on the season with a 28-14 win over Rapid City Central Friday night in the Rushmore Bowl. The Governors amassed over 400 yards in total offense and scored 4 times from long range. Quarterback Alex Gray had his hand in over 330 yards of offense as he threw for 229 yards and 2 touchdowns and ruan 101 yards and scored another touchdown. After Rapid City Central scored the first touchdown converting on the first of three Governor turnovers, Pierre found the endzone 4 consecutive times before the Cobblers would score again in the 4th quarter. Gray hit Austin Christopherson on a 72 yard touchdown strike in the first quarter and Ethan Case ran 40 yards on a counter reverse to give the Govs a 14-7 halftime lead. Pierre would increase the lead to 21-7 when Gray hit Garrett Pochop on a 58 yard touchdown pass and then the Governor quarterback would rush 73 yards for the final score. Pierre will have thier home opener Friday night when they host Mitchell, also 2-0 to start the season in a matchup of ESD unbeatens.
