WATERTOWN, S.D. – The Pierre Governors gave up an opening drive touchdown to go down 7-0 but took over from there as the Govs downed Watertown 35-24 in ESD Conference football Saturday night in Watertown. Shay Bratland rushed for 80 of his game high 191 yards in the first 8 plays of the game. But the Governors with a 5 yard touchdown pass from Alex Gray to Shay Reinke to tie the game at 7 at the quarterbreak. After Watertown’s Jess Poppen kicked a 23 yard field goal to put the Arrows back on top, the Governors responded again scoring 3 unanswered touchdowns including a 80 yard strike from Gray to Garrett Pochop early in the third quarter to increase their lead to 28-10. Gray scored twice on runs as well as he led the Governors in rushing just under 90 yards, and Jace Jerome found the endzone as the Governors win their first game of the season for the first time in 6 years. Pierre is back in action Friday night when they travel to Rapid City to take on Rapid City Central.
