PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) Pierre Players will get its new season underway tonight with an open house. The open house will take place between 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. at the Grand Opera House on upper Pierre Street. Those attending today can buy their 2013-2014 membership, tour the Grand Opera House, learn about what goes into putting on the productions, and more-according to Pierre Players Board Member Michele Beeler.
Beeler says Pierre Players used to conduct season kick offs each year and are reviving the events-after going for a few years without holding the open houses. Beeler says the coming year will bring some great productions from Pierre Players volunteers. She says everyone will find a show they enjoy and there will be some good comedies this year, too. The first play of the new season will be the comedy Boeing, Boeing, which opens September 27 and runs through October 6. In choosing each year’s schedule, Beeler says a group gathers once a year to try to come up with what kinds of productions Pierre Players will bring each season.
Other plays in the coming months include The Game’s Afoot or Holmes for the Holidays, The Farnsworth Invention, Crimes of the Heart and the musical Rodgers & Hammerstein’s South Pacific.
Beeler says Pierre Players is always looking for volunteers to become a part of the group.
Last year, Pierre Players sold about 400 season memberships and this year, they’re already more than ¼ of the way to that number. Those that want more information on memberships and next season can visit the website www.pierreplayers.com.
