SDGA’s Men’s Senior State Tournament Completes First Round

YANKTON, S.D. – Rapid City’s Doug Murphy shot 75 on Saturday in the first round of the SDGA Men’s Senior Championship at Hillcrest Country Club in Yankton, giving him a one-stroke lead heading into Sunday’s final round. Derek Burshiem of Flandreau and Bob Endahl of Brandon each shot 76 and will join Murphy in the final grouping on Sunday. Four more players–George Christopulos of Sioux Falls; Kyle Repp of Yankton; 2003 Senior champion Lee Brandt, whose card included an ace on the par-3 sixteenth hole; and four-time Senior champion Mike Brummer–are within two strokes at 77. Several golfers from central South Dakota are playing in the tournament. Louis and Jesse Mendoza of Eagle Butte both carded 81′s during yesterday’s first round. Pierre Lady Governor and Governor head golf coach, John Knox of Onida had an 82 yesterday while Joseph Villa of Pierre carded a 91 for his first round score.
