PIERRE, S.D. – The Pierre Governor golf team opens the season today as they travel to Spearfish to play the first round of the 36 hole West River Invitational Golf tournament. Governor head coach John Knox, who won’t be accompaning the team due to the fact that he is playing in the State Men’s Senior tournament in Yaniton on Saturday and Sunday, says that the Spearfish course will cause the Governors some difficulity. After today’s opening round, the squads will head to Rapid City to play the second and final round of the tournament on Friday at the Meadowbrook Golf Course. He says the varsity squad that will play in the first few tournaments will consist of senior Cash Anderson, freshman Andrew Van Gerpen and Ben Deis, who lettered last year. Also playing for the Governors will be Matt Booth, Austin Hoss and Landon Badger. Assistant Coach Guy Hunter will be in charge of the team.
