UNDATED – High Schools across the state are opening the football season tomorrow with the first allowable football practices as teams prepare for their opening games in two weekends. Most of the area central South Dakota high schools will have familiar faces to lead the way but there will be several new faces on the sidelines with two new faces to guide thier teams in Pierre-Ft. Pierre. Jayson Poppinga takes over the Pierre Governor football program while Jeff Hegge will begin his first season at the helm of the Stanley County football program. One of the other new head coaches this year is at Miller where Will Castle takes over as head coach while at Chamberlain Jerry Rhodes Jr., the son of the former head coach at Philip, will begin his first year at the helm of the Chamberlain football program. Cheyenne Eagle Butte also has a new head coach in Micheal Scott. Mark Senfter returns as head coach at Sully Buttes while Vern Smith will be at the helm of Potter County. Jay Tee Sealy returns as head coach of Jones County and Micheal Kieffer is back for another season at the helm of Lyman football. Ken Jones is the head coach once again at Highmore-Harrold. Kevin Morehart returns as the head coach of Philip while Troy Krogman is back as head coach at White River and D.J. Middletent will take over the head coaching position at Lower Brule while Jeff Kosters returns as head coach of Herreid Selby.
