PIERRE, S.D. – The Pierre Governor Golf team began practice earlier this week as they prepare for the upcoming boys golf season. Governor head coach John Knox has only one returner back from last year’s team in senior Cash Anderson. After that, spots for the varsity squad are up for grabs as Pierre prepares for their season opening tournament a week from Thursday at Spearfish and a week from Friday at Rapid City. Challange matches began Tuesday and will continue through Thursday to determine the lineup for next week’s tournament. Coach Knox says when it is all sorted out, there will be 20 to 25 golfers out for Pierre and for the first time in two years, they have a golf course that they work on as Hillsview Golf Course is reopen after two years of being closed due to flooding. Coach Knox says it’s nice and will benefit the Governors in less travel just to practice and play challange matches.
