STEPHAN, S.D. – (DRG News) Tomorrow brings the third annual Crow Creek Tribal Schools’ K-12 Pre-Registration Enrollment Bash. The four hour event for Crow Creek students will be held Wednesday afternoon in Fort Thompson. Crow Creek Tribal School Superintendent Silas Blaine says there will be a presentation by Pine Ridge’s B.E.A.R. project and Jude and Shoni Schimmel-who were part of the NCAA Louisville Cardinal Championship Runner-up Team-will also be on hand.
The Schimmel sisters grew up on Oregon’s Umatilla Reservation and they are also planning a basketball camp for girls in grades K-8 on Thursday. Blaine says the Pre-Registration Enrollment Bash has been a great way to get students fired up about the start of a new school year.
Blaine says the new school year is less than a month away and the coming year will be the second year in the district’s new K-12 facility in Stephan.
Last year, the district served 460 students in grades Kindergarten through high school. Blaine says that figure represented an increase from the previous school year and hopes are that enrollment will keep growing. Tomorrow’s Pre-Registration Enrollment Bash will take place at the Lode Star Pavilion from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
