SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) – Members of the South Dakota Air National Guard are facing some financial turbulence because of furloughs that begin next week.
KELO-TV reports that 250 members of the 114th Fighter Wing will lose a quarter of their pay from Aug. 2 through September because of furloughs required by federal budget cuts.
The crew members in Sioux Falls work four 10-hour days each week. The furloughs will cut their schedule to three days a week.
Technical Sgt. Ryan Bak says the furloughs are forcing crew members to put some savings away or cut expenses to deal with the loss of pay.
Bak says crew members will have to adjust to the shortened work week to still make sure jets are ready to fly.
