PIERRE, S.D. – The Pierre Post 8 American Legion Baseball team has qualified for the State Championship American Legion baseball tournament and is in the championship game of the Region 3A baseball tournament tonight at Hyde Stadium in Pierre. Post 8 won twice yesterday dowing Rapid City Post 320 and Sturgis to go to 2-0 in the tournament and earn a berth in the title game. Pierre defeated Sturgis 11-5 last night scoring 4 runs in the 6th inning to put the game away. Gage Curtis had 4 hits and 4 RBI’s and leadoff hitter Carson Eisenbeisz had 3 hits and 2 RBI’s to lead Pierre’s 13 hit attack. Curtis also pitched 3 2/3 innings of relief allowing just 1 run. Pierre opened the tournament with a 11-7 win over Rapid City Post 320 as Alec Norwick had 3 hits and Willie Welch went the distance on the mound scattering 11 hits and striking out 7. Pierre will play the winner of Spearfish and Sturgis tonight at 7 pm. Spearfish and Sturgis play an elimination game at 4 pm today. Rapid City Post 320 was eliminated from the tournament losing twice yesterday including a 10-9 setback to Spearfish. Sturgis defeated Spearfish in yesterday’s first game 4-2.
