PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) A four day teacher workshop, led by a Smithsonian EdLab educator will be held this week at the Cultural Heritage Center in Pierre. The workshop is sponsored in part by the Museum of the South Dakota State Historical Society, and features the theme “Mission Possible: Teaching in the 21st Century”. It will focus on the partnerships that are possible between museums and schools-using museum exhibitions, community research and digital tools to create new connections in the classroom. A press release indicates that by the end of the workshop, South Dakota educators that attend will have a mission based plan for incorporating museum resources, mobile technology and digital media into the 21st century classroom. Kim Skerritt, program educator at Smithsonian EdLab, will lead the workshop. The Museum of the South Dakota State Historical Society became a Smithsonian Affiliate in January and is the only Smithsonian Affiliate in South Dakota.
