PIERRE, S.D. – The Pierre Post 8 American Legion baseball team will be the underdog next week when it host the Region 3A Legion baseball tournament. Pierre’s losing streak reached 8 last night when they were shallacked by Rapid City Post 320 by a 18-1 score in a game called after 7 innings on the mercy rule. The two squads decided to play a single 9 inning game instead of a doubleheader before the contest. Pierre was never in the contest as Post 320 scored 5 runs in the first inning and two each in the second and thrid innings before putting the game away with 7 runs in the 4th inning. Gage Curtis started for Pierre and took the loss as he surrendered 6 runs on 7 hits. Ryan Goodwin, Ben Liedholt and Blake Dean did not fair any better in relief as each pitcher allowed at least 2 hits. Cash Anderson had two of Pierre’s 4 hits in the game. Post 8 also did not help itself in the field as it committed 5 errors. With the loss, Pierre’s record falls to 15 and 23 on the season. The Post 8 squad was scheduled to head to Rapid City to face Rapid City Post 22 tonight in a single game, but that game has now been cancelled. Pierre’s next two games will be against Sturgis. Friday night in Sturgis and Sunday in Pierre to wrap up the regular season. The Region 3A baseball tournament begins a week from today at Hyde Stadium
