PIERRE, S.D. – A solid day of defense and aggressive base running turned into a first-ever tournament championship for the Pierre Pride 16U fastpitch team at the Sturgis Invitational. The Pride beat Sturgis Stealth 2-1 in the championship game with the winning run coming in the bottom of the 7th when Brianna Dufour scored the winning run on a fielders choice.  Sammy Bahe was the winning pitcher in the title game going the distance.  Earlier in the tourney, Pierre went 2-1 in pool play. In the opener, Pierre jumped out to a 7-1 lead against Newcastle, WY but had to hold off a late rally for an 8-7 win.   In a 13-1 win over Spearfish, Bahe pitched a 6 inning no hitter for Pierre.  In the final game of pool play, Sturgis edged Pierre 15-14 before Pierre returned the favor in the championship game.  The State 16U tournament is next coming up July 12-14 in Sioux Falls.
