FORT PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) A group that has organized in support of a proposed $16 million dollar riverside development in Fort Pierre will hold a public forum on the project tomorrow. Bob Jeffries is Treasurer of Citizens for the Future of Fort Pierre. Tomorrow’s meeting comes the day before a court hearing on the Riverwalk Landing Marina on a deferred development fee and about a week before Fort Pierre residents will vote on a decision by the city council which amended an ordinance linked to the project’s dry dock/boat storage area. Jeffries says most Fort Pierre residents should have received a mailing by now that note some of the benefits of the project-and also mentions tomorrow’s forum. He says the forum will include input from project supporters, opponents and an official from the city will likely be present to answer questions on zoning, jurisdiction or taxing. He says hopes are that everyone that has questions about the project will have them answered tomorrow.
The mailing sent to Fort Pierre residents says the project would mean 100 new jobs, and an estimated $481,141 in total annual sales and property tax revenue. Jeffries says he knows some people want to ask more details about the project, which he says is going to be quite impressive.
Jeffries says Citizens for the Future of Fort Pierre believes there are several positive aspects for the area if Riverwalk Landing is built.
Tomorrow’s forum will be held at 7:00 p.m. at the Fort Pierre Senior Center. Mark and Glennis Zarecky are developing the project, which would include a marina, restaurant, retail shops, a boat servicing location, dry dock and convention center. It would be built near Pizza Ranch, along the river in Fort Pierre.
