Weather Affects State High School Finals Rodeo

 BELLE FOURCHE, S.D. – Thunderstorms and rain of around 2 inches forced South Dakota High School Rodeo officials to postpone Saturday night’s third go round of the State High School Finals Rodeo The third round was rescheduled to 7 am mountain time Sunday moring with the championship round scheduled for a noon start time mountain time. The leaders after 2 go rounds of the high school finals rodeo are in the boys divisions, Treg Schaack of Edgemont, who clocked a 9.620 seconds in tiedown roping, Prestyn Novak of Newell (5.020 in steer wrestling), Tayte Clark of Meadow (70 in saddle bronc and a 69 in bareback riding), Casey Heninger of Ft. Pierre (74 in bull riding), Tate Thompson of Ethan and Braden Pirrung of Hartford (6.430 in team roping). Girls’ event winners included Cassy Woodward of Dupree (2.510 in breakaway roping), Brooke Howell of Belle Fourche (20.282 in pole bending), Rickie Engesser of Spearfish (7.710 in goat tying) and Alyssa Lockhart of Oelrichs (17.173 in barrel racing). Top finishers in the average in all events advance to the championship short go, with berths on the state team headed for the National High School Rodeo in Rock Springs, Wyo., in July.
