PIERRE, S.D. – The Pierre Post 8 American Legion Baseball team won twice yesterday at the 23rd annual Wayne Hauschild Memorial baseball tournament in Brookings. Post 8 downed Clear Lake 6-2 behind strong pitching from winning pitcher Cash Anderson as Pierre was limited to only 2 hits on the game, both by Gage Curtis. Anderson struck out 7 in the complete game performance. In the second game, Post 8 downed Vermillion 13-5 before torrential rains hit the Brookings area. Post 8 scored 5 runs in the 4th inning and added another 4 in the 5th to pull away as Willie Welch had 3 RBI’s in Pierre’s mercy rule win. Alex Gray started and was relieved by Alec Norwick on the mound. With the two wins, Pierre evens their season record at 10-10. Due to yesterday’s rains, the tournament had to revamp it’s schedule and Pierre will now play at 1:30 pm against Coon Rapids, Minnesota in their final pool play game. They are scheduled to play another game later today and a place game tomorrow at the tournament.
