PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) Construction workers are busy throughout parts of Pierre this week, as road and rail related projects continue. The City of Pierre says a segment of Dakota Avenue remains closed west of Pierre Street today. Storm pipe and catch basin installation should be completed there this week. Sidewalk and curb and gutter work will begin on Dakota between Pierre and Fort Streets late this week and be in full swing by Monday. The city says both projects will likely keep that block closed to traffic until construction is complete.
Watermain replacement work continues on Ree Street and that work, which started last week, should be done by Thursday.
Elizabeth Street at Garfield Avenue is closed this week while a sanitary sewer project is underway. All businesses are open and have access from East Elizabeth via Arthur Avenue or Northstar Avenue. Normal traffic patterns in that construction area should be restored by the end of this week.
The South Dakota Department of Transportation also is continuing work to repair concrete on a section of Sioux Avenue west of Pierre Street and Canadian Pacific Railway crews are still working to install signal and crossing equipment at some railroad crossings where that has yet to be done. Work has been underway over the past month to upgrade rail crossings in parts of Pierre.
