PIERRE, S.D. – The Pierre Post 8 American Legion baseball team swept 3 North Dakota teams over the weekend to win the title of the first annual Koester Border Battle tournament at Hyde Stadium. Rain forced officials to revamp the schedule and they got 3 games in on Saturday. Post 8 played in two of them and won downing Mandan 6-4 and then posted a 9-3 win over Grand Forks. Ryan Goodwin was the winning pitcher in the victory over Mandan while also leading the way at the plate with 3 hits and 3 RBI’s. In the win ovr Grand Forks, Alex Gray pitched and hit his way to the victory. Gray went the first 6 innings allowing 3 runs and striking out 5. He also had 2 hits and 4 RBI’s in the victory. Then Post 8 wrapped up the Koester title with a 9-0 shutout of Bismarck Sunday night. Bo Atkins pitched the first 6 innings in picking up the win allowing 4 hits and striking out 9. Willie Welch had 3 hits and 2 RBI’s while Cash Anderson had 2 hits and 3 RBI’s to lead Pierre which improved it’s record to 6 and 4 on the season and has a 4 game winning streak as they host Rapid City Post 22 in a single 9 inning game Tuesday night.
