PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — Gov. Dennis Daugaard has proclaimed May as Archaeology & Historic Preservation Month in South Dakota. Daugaard, in his proclamation, says South Dakota’s cultural heritage is rich because of thousands of historical sites, historic buildings and landscapes. He says public appreciation and understanding of the sites are the foundations for preserving South Dakota’s past for future generations. South Dakota State Historical Society director Jay D. Vogt says the annual celebration brings historic preservation to the forefront.
