MILBANK, S.D. – Rain forced cancellation of the second and final round of the State Class A Girls Golf tournament in Milbank on Tuesday. So Monday’s first round scores were declared the final scores of the tournament with Parkston winning the tournament by three strokes. Parkston had a 350 with Sioux Falls Christian next at 353 and Cassidy Vollmer of Hot Springs was declared the state champion after her Monday round of 82, one stroke better that Kiersten Warkenthein of Sioux Falls Christian.
BROOKINGS, S.D. – They played through the light rain and drizzle at the State Class B Girls and Boys Golf tournaments yesterday in Brookings. Garretson won the Boys Class B title with a 19 stroke victory over runner up Howard. Dereck Dillon of Garretson won the State B Boys Individual title. Dillon’s two round score 151 was two shots better than runner up Cal Weise of Howard. Stanley County had a 294 team score yesterday to finish with a two round total 606 and a 18th place finish 24 strokes behind 17th place finishing Sully Buttes. Seth VanDenHemmel led the Buffalos yeterday with a 91 and a two round score 199. Tyler Smith had a 103 yesterday for a two round total 202 and Nate Cronin had a 205 after second round score of 100. In the girls Class B tournament Andes Central fired a second straight 268 for a 536 two round total and a 8 stroke victory over runnerup Deubrook. Individually, Andes Central’s Kellie Winckler had a second round 78 and two round total 155 to claim a 2 shot victory over runner up Kali Trautman of Deuel. Stanley County had one golfer in the field. Martee Larson fired a second round 115 for a 241 tournament total.
