PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) A man wanted for crimes in the state of Washington and for failing to register as a sex offender in Minnesota was taken into custody in Pierre over the weekend.  Paul Keyes, Supervisory Deputy for the U.S. Marshal’s Service in Pierre, says authorities were alerted that 24-year-old Marcus Jones was in the Pierre area on Saturday.  He is wanted in Vancouver, Washington for Domestic Assault Involving Strangulation and Kidnapping (Unlawful Imprisonment).  The Pierre Area Joint Task Force, made up of U.S. Marshal’s Office, the Pierre Police Department, and Hughes and Stanley County Sheriff’s Department, located Jones’ vehicle at Chekker’s Convenience Store and he was arrested without incident in the parking lot of the business on Saturday.  Jones was booked into the Hughes County Jail and will be extradited back to Vancouver for the assault and kidnapping charges.  He is also a non-compliant registered sex offender and is wanted for Failure to Register as a Sex Offender in Ramsey County, Minnesota.  Authorities say they believe Jones had traveled from Washington to Minnesota and Minnesota officials alerted authorities that he was likely traveling back through this area on his way west.
