PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) A Capitol Lake War Memorial cleanup will take place this weekend, to help prepare the site for the upcoming Memorial Day weekend.  The local Vietnam and Vietnam Era Veterans Association (VEVA) will have a cleanup event on Saturday.  VEVA member John Moisan says the plans call for cleaning and shining all the bronze statues, the granite, the Flaming Fountain and other areas near the statues.  The volunteers will also pickup trash around the lake; paint railings and power wash the sidewalks around the Memorial site.  Moisan says clean-up work starts late Saturday morning and afterward, there will be a Vietnam veteran’s family pot luck.

Moisan says plans call for a short memorial service at 2:15 at the Vietnam memorial.

Moisan says the event is for volunteers who are Vietnam Era Veterans and says if there are enough participants; the work will extend to other nearby memorials for first responders.

Those attending are encouraged to wear an article of clothing that identifies them as a Vietnam or Vietnam Era vet.  Volunteers should also call 280-4966 so that organizers know how many people will show up and to ensure that there is enough food for everyone.
