Pierre Man Arrested for First Degree Manslaughter

PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) A Pierre man was arrested earlier today for First Degree Manslaughter following the death of a baby this morning.  Pierre Police Captain Elton Blemaster says officers were called to a home in the 1000 block of North Poplar Avenue about 9:38 a.m. this morning where it was said an infant was unresponsive and was not breathing.  On arrival, officers started CPR on the two-month-old male infant.  AMR ambulance arrived and continued CPR.  The baby was transported to Avera St. Mary’s Emergency Room and the infant was later pronounced deceased by the Avera St.Mary’s medical staff.  Blemaster says the child’s father, 29-year-old Garfield Good Face, was taken into custody for Manslaughter in the Second Degree.  Blemaster says an autopsy has been ordered and an investigation continues.  No further details are being released at this time.
