PIERRE, S.D. – The man who guided the Pierre Governors to back to back State Class A Wrestling Champions is stepping down from the position. Ryan Noyes submitted his resignation and it was accepted at a special meeting of the Pierre School Board Wednesday. Noyes had been a coach with the Pierre Wrestling program for the last 14 years and has served the last 8 as head coach. During his tenure, the Governors won their first State High School Wrestling Title in 37 years in 2012 and then became the first Pierre Wrestling team to win back to back State Titles this past season. A search for a new head wrestling coach is underway. Noyes resignation is the 3rd resignation of a head coaching position in the Pierre system this year. Joe Kramer resigned as head football coach after the conclusion of the season and Nicki Abels resigned as head gymnastics coach of the Lady Governors. Also having their resignations accepted at today’s school board meeting was that of freshman football coach and strength and conditioning coach Shawn Schnabel and 8th grade volleyball coach Greg Starr.
